The Recreation and Wellness Office offers a variety of programs that promote wellness and enhance lifelong skills including intramural, extramural, and community-based sporting opportunities.

  • Intramural sports teams consist of students who play against other students.
  • Extramural, or club sports, consist of NHCC students who compete against other community college teams.
  • NHCC students can also compete with community-based sport organizations.

Flag Football (September - October)

Season kicks off in September. Students interested in participating on this year's team should talk to Nathan Field - Recreation & Wellness Coordinator in CC101. As a member of the team, it is expected that all players will travel to road games. Only currently enrolled students are eligible to play, participation is free. Previously football or flag football experience is encouraged.

Students interested in playing soccer can join for Open Soccer/Futsal. Open Soccer is every Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on the outdoor field behind the HWC September - October* and mid-March - May. Open Futsal is every Friday 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. in the HWC Gym November - December and mid-January - mid-March. *Weather dependent.

Hockey (January - February)

The NHCC Club Hockey season begins in mid-January. If you are interested in playing, please contact Nathan Field - Recreation & Wellness Coordinator. Previous hockey experience is encouraged and there is no cost to participate. Home games are played at the Brooklyn Park Activities Center. Admission is free.

Basketball (March - April)

We participate in the Metro Club Basketball League. If you are interested in playing, please contact Nathan Field - Recreation & Wellness Coordinator. All players must be able to attend both home and away games and maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher. Games are played during weekday afternoons. Home games are played in the HWC gymnasium. Admission is free.

Group Fitness Classes

Currently enrolled students and staff can drop in to fitness classes throughout spring semester for free. Classes meet on a regular basis when academic classes are in session.

  • Cardio Strength

    Come and join us during this up-tempo workout combining strength training, cardio and endurance, using a high intensity interval format. We use a variety of methods to build muscle and get our heart rates up, while groovin’ to upbeat music. The class is structured to challenge all fitness levels. Beginners and advanced fitness lovers welcome. Come and join the fun!

  • Drop-In Yoga

    Join Geneva in this unintimidating class that is geared toward the yoga beginner. Special emphasis will be placed on basic poses with intermediate options available. Everyone will feel successful, flexible and relaxed at the end of the session. Namaste!

  • Disciplinary Policy

    All students are expected to follow standards of behavior as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct (Chapter 3).

  • Locker Room Use

    Lockers and locks are available for daily and semester-long use to currently enrolled students. In order to have a lock assigned to you, visit the Recreation and Wellness weight room desk. All lockers must be emptied at the end of each semester. Questions or if you would like to request a locker contact Nathan Field - Recreation & Wellness Coordinator in CC 101A.

  • Using the Facilities

    In order to use the facilities, or take part in any Recreation and Wellness activity, you must be a currently enrolled student and present a valid NHCC Student ID to the staff member at the desk.
